Three pupils at a Colchester school put themselves on the map after winning a geography competition against schools from the south of England.

Lee Bloomfield, Daniel Morris and Tom Donnachie, all Year ten pupils at Stanway School, had won a Worldwise Geography Quiz at the school and were invited to the Juniper Hall Field Studies Centre, near Dorking, for a weekend to compete against other schools from the south of England.

Robert Slater was also part of the winning team but could not attend the weekend.

On the first day, they toured the surrounding area and took part in field studies including how climate change would affect the centre in the future, its weather and the types of trees and habitats to be found there.

The next morning, the trio were given three hours to prepare oral and visual presentations, during which they spoke about why they thought the area was special and what could happen to it in the future.

At the end of the day they were told they had beaten the five other schools there and were awarded a trophy, an atlas, goody bags and a £250 voucher for the school to use to visit a field studies centre in the future.
