Tiny creature skulls were part of a show-and-tell session for children.
Children at Springlands Nursery, in Shrub End Road, Colchester, took part in lots of activities, led by Lisa Smart of the Essex Wildlife Trust.
As well as examining the skulls, they were taught about caring for living things and their habitats.
She said: "The Essex Wildlife Trust believes that all positive messages and unique opportunities we give to children now may be a way of improving our county's wildlife tomorrow.
"It also helps them to understand important issues relating to conservation.
"It was a really fun afternoon - with lots of excellent questions."
