Some north Essex schools were closed today as teachers went on strike for the first time in 20 years.
More than 3,000 children in Tendring were affected with nine primary schools fully or partially closed. These were: Alton Park, Clacton; Bright-lingsea Infants; Chase Lane, Dovercourt; Engaines, Clacton; Hamford, Walton; Harwich Primary; Holland Haven, Holland-on-Sea; Kirby Primary, and Ravenscroft, Clacton.
At Clacton County High School, those aged 12 to 14 were having a whole day or half-day off, while at the Harwich School those aged 13 to 15 were affected.
At Colbayns High, Clacton, sixth formers were encouraged to do private study instead of classes.
East Bergholt High, in Suffolk, used by children from Manningtree and Colchester, was fully closed.
Members of the NUT were taking action over pay. Teachers from across the county were due to meet outside County Hall, Chelmsford, to call for a revised pay deal.
