COLCHESTER and East Essex star Graham Napier is today facing an anxious wait to find out if his season is in tatters before it has even started.

The Essex all-rounder is sweating on the results of a knee scan after he experienced pain on a routine run last week.

The injury ruled him out of contention for Essex's opening matches, but he has his fingers crossed the problem is not too severe, allowing him to continue with what is a big season for him personally.

He told the Gazette: "I'm due to get the results of the scan today.

"I was on a training run and halfway through the knee flared up. The following day it was pretty sore and we have a rough idea of what it is.

"They have ruled out any cruciate damage which is good and is most likely to be a problem with the calf or fibula/tibia joint and the capsule may have been aggravated.

"It is concerning me as I'm missing out on cricket and with the game against New Zealand coming up it would have been great to play against them."
