RESIDENTS are gearing up for a fight after an application for a mental care unit in their street was lodged.
Homeowners in Park Road, Clacton, were relieved in February when a similar plan for a 12-bed home was rejected by a Government inspector.
But they have been left reeling, after the new proposals from company Empire Care were revealed, which would see the former Hertford House Hotel turned into a residential unit for 22 people with mental disorders.
The purpose of the home would be to rehabilitate them back into the community.
Residents fear the possibility of antisocial behaviour and violence from those living at the unit, as well as concerns over parking and privacy.
Sue Bolton, of Park Way, said: "It's almost a year since the previous application for a similar unit went to the Government inspector.
"The year has been very stressful for the residents, especially the elderly, and yet we are to be subjected to another application."
Almost 40 letters were sent in objection to the previous plan, as well as a 144-name petition - and Mrs Bolton hopes that the strength of feeling will be just as high on this occasion.
