A CALL has been made to let non-commuters park on a new clearway.

The clearway, which runs down Cox's Hill, Lawford, past Manningtree station and up to the White Bridge, came into force last Monday.

Drivers who were parking there now have to go elsewhere or face a £70 fine.

It was brought in to stop commuters who use the station from parking there all day and clogging up the grass verges.

At a Mistley Parish Council meeting, parish councillor Brian Forrester wondered if special allowances could be made for people who wanted to park there for a short amount of time.

He suggested some people liked to park there to go walking instead of using the station and asked if police could consider this.

It would mean they could park there for a short amount of time without being penalised.
