Two volunteers have been hailed for their contribution to university life.
Allan Blundell and Sir Robin Mountfield were awarded honorary fellowships at an annual meeting recently for their work on the University of Essex council.
Mr Blundell, of School Road, Copford, chairs the Essex Pension Scheme, the Cable and Wireless pension fund and is a director of Wivenhoe Park Management Ltd.
He joined the university council five years ago, while Sir Robin Mountfield, of Ipswich, a former permanent secretary to the Cabinet Office, became a council member in 1999.
A university spokesman said: "The university relies on a number of extremely committed volunteers who work mainly behind the scenes, both unsung and unpaid, making a tremendous contribution to the life of the university.
"These awards recognise such contributions from Allan Blundell and Sir Robin Mountfield."
