Police are searching for three men after a man was found stabbed to death in the street today closed a nearby primary school.

A murder inquiry was launched after police were called to Coldnailhurst Avenue in Bocking near Braintree just after 10pm yesterday.

The ambulance service alerted officers after they found the body of a 25-year-old local man.

Investigating officers are hoping to speak to three men seen with the victim shortly before his death as well as any witnesses in the area between 9pm and 10pm.

Police today revealed an 18-year-old man had been taken into police custody in relation to the attack.

A knife was recovered following the incident but police have said this may not be the one used in the attack and officers are appealing for anyone who comes across any type of blade or weapon to leave it where it is and contact the police immediately.

Pupils and parents walking to John Bunyan Infant School in nearby Lancaster Way this morning had to turn back and head for home after the school was closed as part of the investigation.

Senior investigating officer, Detective Superintendent John Quinton said: "At this stage our main priority is to establish the activity of a group of men which included the victim moments before the attack."
