A high-speed chase took place along the A12 this morning following an attempted burglary of a Colchester jewellers.
At around 11.45pm last night, CCTV cameras spotted three men in balaclavas trying to break into Goldsmiths, in Culver Square, with a grinder, before escaping in a nearby car with an accomplice as police rushed to the scene.
Essex Police's helicopter, road traffic police, dog teams and automatic number plate recognition teams (ANPR) pursued the car at speeds of more than 100 miles per hour before the car crashed near Boreham.
Three men have been arrested in relation to a number of offences and are due to be questioned today.
