About £53,000 is to be spent on play equipment for a Colchester country park.

The Friends of Westlands Country Park have secured the grant funding, and are in the process of choosing the equipment.

The park, which is a former landfill site on James Carter Road, Prettygate, opened as a country park in August 2007.

The Friends intend to build a play area for toddlers and younger children, as well as providing an adventure play area - or assault course - for older children.

An adults play area has also been earmarked but further funding will be needed for that.

The fundraising came from Fowler Smith and Jones Charitable Trust, Essex Environmental Trust and Cory Environmental Trust.

An Easter egg hunt will be held at the park on Saturday.

Everyone is welcome to attend and the hunt will start from 10.30am at the entrance on James Carter Road. Entry is 50p per child.
