Firefighters battled a blaze in a scrapyard.
An area of about ten square metres was alight in the Hythe area of Colchester.
The alarm was raised just after 9pm last night, and four crews - two from Colchester, one from Wivenhoe and another from Mersea - were sent to the site in Haven Road.
Using foam, they tackled the flames by 10.20pm. Police were called to investigate the fire.
In a separate incident, a caravan and car were destroyed in another scrapyard blaze.
Firefighters from Colchester, West Mersea and Tiptree fire stations were called to the reclamation yard in Maldon Road, Stanway, yesterday, about 7.30am. They spent just over an hour dealing with the incident.
A caravan and car were completely burnt out, and another car was damaged.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
