Mersea lifeboat was called to investigate a drifting boat.
The 15ft boat had been abandoned and was floating near the coast at Bradwell yesterday afternoon.
It was towed to shore by the RNLI.
Lifeboat crewman Gordon Eckstein said: "The boat looked like it could have been drifting for weeks - it was not in good shape."
