From big wheel to big windmill? Architects are considering a plan to draw the crowds to Clacton Pier by creating a wind farm viewing platform.
The centrepiece could be a model wind turbine, built on the pier itself.
The idea was revealed as BDP Architects embarks on a £31,000 project to create a blueprint to revitalise the town.
Anna Sinnott and Richard Rees, from the firm, have unveiled their initial findings ahead of a six-week public consultation in April.
Mrs Sinnott said the plans are at the "trying-to-excite-people" stage.
They include revitalising the seafront with striking buildings at intervals, an American-style shopping mall and a revamped pavilion.
Others ideas include linking the multi-storey car park in Carnarvon Road with a supermarket, creating a civic hub and making the train station a gateway into the town.
