A COLLISION involving a lorry, a minibus and a car has seen a major motorway closed in one direction.

Essex Police was called to the scene between Junctions 26 and 27 on the M25 to what it has described as a “serious collision.”

Four fire crews have also been attendance tonight during the ongoing incident.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “We were called at 6.15pm to reports that several vehicles – a lorry, a minibus and a car – were involved in a collision between Junctions 26 and 27.

“As a result, the motorway remains closed anti-clockwise between the junctions for Waltham Abbey and the M11.”

Traffic has now ground to a halt while emergency services deal with the incident between the junction for the A121 by Waltham Abbey.

The police spokesman continued: “We’d like to thank members of the public for their patience as we remain on the scene of a serious collision on the M25.

“We know that being in traffic can be frustrating, but we’d urge pedestrians to stay out of live lanes so we, and our colleagues in other emergency services, can carry out crucial work on scene.

“The road will remain closed for hours and, if you’re considering travelling before tomorrow’s rush hour, please seek an alternate route.”

In attendance from the fire brigade was a crew from each of Brentwood, Loughton, Waltham Abbey and Epping

Incident Commander Richie Green, of Essex Fire and Rescue Service added:

"Our crews worked extremely hard in a difficult and dynamic situation. We thank the public for their patience while we worked with other emergency services to make the scene safe."
