Charity cyclist Emily Cawley has received a huge thank-you for helping a worthwhile cause to a massive £35,000 boost.
The 25-year-old researcher, from St Mary's, Colchester, took part in the Meningitis Trust's 400km journey along the banks of the Nile last month, contributing £2,700 to the total.
She said: "It was absolutely amazing. I had the time of my life.
"It certainly was a challenge. I think the heat was the hardest thing, because it was something I could not prepare for."
Although about 50 people started the eight-day ride from Luxor to the Aswan Dam, only 15 finished it.
"Also, a lot of people became ill, but I managed to do the whole thing," she added.
"I came back completely knackered and a bit skinny, but it was completely awesome, and I'm glad I did it."
