FANS of Colchester United have been praised in the House of Commons by the town's MP for their good behaviour.
As a season ticket holder, MP Bob Russell was proud to praise his home team for having the lowest number of arrests in the Championship last season.
Home Office figures revealed there were nine arrests at the club last season, half the amount of the next best club, Crystal Palace, and 13 times better than the club with the worst figures, Sunderland.
He was pseaking during a debate calling for safe standing areas in all-seat football stadiums.
"Watching football from the terraces is completely different from going to an all-seat stadium," he said.
"If clubs think there is capacity for safe standing areas, perhaps they could have pens, perhaps no more than four or five deep and 20 to 30 yards long.
"I urge the Sports Minister to relax the rigid regulation on all-seat stadiums," he said.
