Two legs are good, but two wheels are better!

PCSOs will be saving some shoe leather as they join the chain gang to patrol a Colchester neighbourhood.

The congregation of St Barnabas Church, in Abbotts Road, collected £550 to buy a bicycle to help police community support officers (PCSOs) get around Old Heath, which was presented to police yesterday.

Father Richard Tillbrook, vicar of Old Heath, said: "I'm hoping that we might be able to continue the fundraising and get another bike for our PCSOs.

"They do a great job for the local area, but currently the PCSOs have to walk all the way from Shrub End to start their beat in Old Heath. This bike will help them get around a bit more speedily."

Insp Andy Fusher, who oversees policing in the south of Colchester, thanked churchgoers for their generosity.

"This is an amazing gesture, which shows the support of the local community," he said. "This will help us combat crime by putting our officers where people want them, when they want them."
