A detective who led a manhunt has thanked residents in Jaywick for helping to track down a killer.
Det Chief Insp Jason Gwillim, of the Metropolitan Police, praised Essex police and residents in Jaywick for helping to trace Terry O'Neil, who was sentenced to life in prison at the Central Criminal Court, London, yesterday.
The 48-year-old was convicted of the murder of Peter Jones and the wounding of Adrian Rowe in Victoria Dock Road, London, following a fight in August last year, and must now serve a minimum of 17 years in prison.
Det Chief Insp Gwillim said: "I would like to thank the Essex constabulary who gave us tremendous support, as well as the residents of Jaywick.
"They were shocked and horrified to think that someone of that nature was staying within their community, and pulled together to help us in any way they could."
