A soldier who risked his life to save his best mate in a fierce gun battle has been given a hero's reception.
Private Matt Duffy lost two friends and cheated death himself while fighting the Taliban on a six-month tour of Afghanistan.
He returned home to Colchester with fellow troops from the Royal Anglian Regiment and was thrilled to be back.
Mum Wendy Dunn decorated her home in Rowhedge with bunting and banners to celebrate his arrival.
Pte Duffy, 20, said: "It's absolutely fantastic to know we've got the support of people back here.
"We personally know what we've achieved, but it means the world to hear it from others."
