Thousands of people suffered a power cut.
Halstead, Wethersfield, Earls Colne, Colne Engaine, Saffron Walden, Takeley, White Roding and Dunmow were all affected by the sudden loss of electricity on Monday at about 1.30pm.
EDF engineers restored the first supplies at 1.56pm and manged to reconnect the final customers by 3.21pm.
Schools affected by the power carried on as normal with some alterations to lessons involving electronic white boards or computers.
EDF is currently investigating the cause of the power cut.
