A mother is outraged that her daughter has been punished for misbehaving when she wasn't even in school at the time.

Marion Milligan, of Avon Way, Colchester, removed her daughter, Shelley, 13, from the Sir Charles Lucas Art College two weeks ago, after she claimed she was continually given detentions and excluded.

The 44-year-old community carer said the school was not doing enough to help educate her daughter, who last year spent just 16 days in education.

On October 1, Mrs Milligan received a letter from the school saying Shelly had been issued with a 45-minute detention for refusing to complete work in a lesson.

However, Shelley was not at school at the time.

She said: "If she has done something wrong, Shelley is the first one to admit to it.

"She is very truthful but now she has started to get depressed about school."

Shelly said: "I just don't ever want to go back to that school."

The school was unavailable for comment but confirmed it was investigating the claims.
