A sombre atmosphere filled the streets of Harwich as the funeral of Joanne Coombs, who died when she was hit by a train, took place on Friday.

The body of the 41-year-old, from Fronks Road, Dovercourt, was found on Tuesday, September 18, on tracks near Manningtree station - at the same spot where the body of her daughter Natasha was discovered on August 10.

Joanne's husband Gary, followed by her parents, Peter and Wendy Clackett, entered the service held at St Nicholas' Church, Harwich, at 11am.

As the church bell rang, a crowd gathered in the street.

The Rev Peter Mann, leader of the Harwich Peninsula Parish, gave readings throughout the half-hour service.

Mr Mann said: "It was a serious service but it focused on Jo as a very loving, kind person and talked of what she had done for many different people.

"Even in sadness it is hard to consider but she did touch quite a few people's lives."

The funeral of Natasha, who was 17, took place at the same church on August 21.

On what would have been Natasha's 18th birthday, Joanne posted a message to Natasha on the Bebo networking website.

It said: "I love and miss you so very, very much. I will speak to you soon babe."
