AN elderly woman was left with fractures to her face after a man riding a mobility scooter crashed into her and dragged her along a footpath.

The victim was waiting at the bus stop close to Colchester Cemetery in Mersea Road when the man on the three-wheeled vehicle struck her from behind.

She was knocked from her feet and dragged along the pavement.

The driver stopped and then made off towards Abbotts Road.

She was left with two facial fractures and cuts and bruises.

The incident happened at 3.15pm on Saturday, September 1. The victim contacted the police the next day but details have only just been released by Essex Police.

PC Matthew Turner from Stanway Roads Policing Unit is leading the investigation.

He urged anyone who saw anything and was yet to speak to police to come forward as soon as possible.

“This was a very distressing incident which left an elderly victim seriously injured and in shock," he said.

“I would appeal for anybody who saw the incident and who has not yet come forward to contact us.

“It was in a residential area at a busy time of day, and it be that you haven’t come forward yet – if this is you, and you do have information, please contact me.”
