PARKING restrictions will be enforced on the Solus and Quarters housing estates in Berechurch, much to the delight of many local residents.

Proposals laid out by Essex Highways were last week approved by Cllr Kevin Bentley, Essex County Council’s cabinet member for infrastructure.

A report written by Andrew Baker, director for highways and transport, said the restrictions would prevent obstructive and dangerous parking at key junctions and at pedestrian crossing points across the two estates.

It added that the measures would mean a clear path would be provided for buses, as well as for service and emergency vehicles.

Meanwhile, the report stated that the restrictions would deter vehicles from parking on grass verges, which have already been subject to damage as a result.

In an informal consultation last May, three quarters of 165 respondents said parking restrictions would have a positive impact on the area.

As a result of the decision, the following junctions will be subject to ‘no waiting at any time’ measures: Hooper Avenue/Berechurch Hall Road, Fowler Road/Hooper Avenue, Foundation Way/Hooper Avenue, John Hammond Close/William Harris Way and Rose Allen Avenue/William Harris Way.

Borough councillor for Berechurch Dave Harris said: “A lot of people have been asking for these restrictions for some time, in order to stop parking in inappropriate places.

“The vast majority of people who live on these estates wanted the restrictions, and residents’ views come first.”
