A DISPERSAL order has been put in place in Colchester town centre ahead of England's final World Cup game.

England play against Belgium in the third-place play-off on Saturday at 3pm.

And police have invoked powers allowing them to move people out of the town centre if they are acting anti-socially.

Celebrations in Colchester have been mainly good natured, but some yobs damaged bus shelter after the quarter final victory last weekend and pockets of disorder broke out after England's defeat to Croatia on Wednesday.

A police spokesman said: "Since the start of the tournament our officers have responded to number of alcohol related disturbances following England games, including reports of people fighting, items being thrown and large groups congregating and acting anti-socially."

The order runs from 2pm until 2am the following day.

It is a criminal offence to breach a direction given under the order and in the worst cases this can result in a criminal conviction punishable by up to six months imprisonment or a fine of up to £5,000.

Anyone with information is asked to call Colchester Community Partnership Team on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
