The devoted owner of a husky who miraculously survived being hit by a train is appealing for the public's help to pay for her costly specialist medical treatment.

Two-year-old Sky suffered horrific facial injuries after she was hit by the vehicle just outside of Witham Station last month.

Despite going through a serious life-saving operation at the vets in the aftermath of the incident, fighter Sky was back home within a week, however she still requires extensive medical treatment.

Her medical bills have already run into the thousands, and owner Lisa Brady is hoping the kind-hearted community can contribute to the worthy cause of helping her recover.

Ms Brady said: "Our pet insurance is not going to cover even a tenth of the costs.

"We are going to sell our car to cover the bulk of her treatment, but there will be a surplus we can't really afford.

"I hate asking but we need help to cover this. I want to fight for her and give her the best chance at recovery.

"I pledge that every penny donated I will repay to an animal charity as I can, bit by bit, to ensure this kindness is repaid."

Siberian husky Sky was hit by the train near her Witham home on Wednesday June 6.

After the impact, the heroic driver stopped the train and picked the badly hurt pup from the tracks.

He put Sky on the train and continued on to Colchester, where British Police Officers arrange for a special K9 ambulance to collect her.

Ms Brady said: "It was a miracle she survived that day, but she did and now has a long road ahead for recovery.

"She was transferred to an amazing facility in Cambridge where she is receiving the very best treatment.

"But she is still very poorly and will need multiple surgeries to help her heal and recover."

The fundraiser has already collected £5,000 in just a month.
