A town centre road in Witham remains closed after a sinkhole appeared in the carriageway.
Essex Highways shut Guithavon Street on Tuesday after the hole, which is roughly 2m deep and 3m around, was discovered.
Investigations have shown the hole is not related to the sewer system, and it is believed sandy soil under the road may have caused the problem.
Essex Highways are currently working on repairing the hole in order to reopen the road.
A diversion is in place around the closed section of road.
