POLICE will be have the power to order people causing anti-social behaviour to leave the area today.

A Section 35 dispersal order has been authorised for Braintree.

The order began at 10am today and will be in place until midnight tonight. The order has been made under the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "It is a criminal offence to breach a direction given under the order and in the worst cases this can result in a criminal conviction punishable by up to six months imprisonment or a fine of up to £5,000."

The order covers Fairfield Road, Market Place, Great Square, High Street, and South Street.

It follows a disturbance in Braintree after the England versus Tunisia match on June 18.

Anyone with information about anti-social behaviour is asked to call the Braintree and Uttlesford Community Policing Team on 101.
