A DRAMA group for people with special educational needs is getting ready to perform at the Mercury Theatre.

Essex Cares Limited's Crafty Drama group performed parts of their upcoming show in Culver Square shopping centre in Colchester.

They wanted to promote their show, 'Our Kind of Music'.

Crowds of shoppers watched on as ECL’s hard-working customers put their thorough rehearsals into practice.

For some of the cast, it will be their first time performing at the Mercury Theatre.

They have been working tirelessly and excited for their performance.

Chosen by the cast, Our Kind of Music is an exciting review of previous performances such as Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Oliver and new pieces.

The cast will be showcasing singing, dancing and signing to music.

Keir Lynch, chief executive of ECL, said: “They have been rehearsing very hard and are looking forward to the full show.”

“This is the first time in the history of the group that they will perform in a professional theatre.

"We are extremely proud of everyone in the lead up to the much anticipated performance."

Crafty Drama will stage a full performance of ‘Our Kind of Music’ at the Mercury Theatre, on June 30 at 7.30pm.

The group, who work with adults with learning disabilities, has put on a performance in Colchester annually for the past ten years.

Tickets cost £13.50 and can be bought at the theatre box office, online or by phone.
