THE Mersea Island Festival is back for the 38th year of inclusive activities and entertainment.

The week-long event brings together children, young people and adults with and without a physical or learning disability from across the country.

Indoor rock climbing, circus skills, judo, archery, dance and band workshops are just some of the exhilarating activities on offer alongside quad biking, art and adventure courses.

Offsite there is even an opportunity to visit a farm, play golf and go fishing.

During the evenings there are live bands, discos, a big screen cinema and the festival’s own talent show from its camp on Mersea.

Tom Brennan, chairman of the Mersea Island Festival Trust, said: “Each year we aim to by providing a thrilling selection of sporting and leisure activities for the young at heart of all abilities.

"Wheelchair users moving up a climbing wall and then down a zip wire, having a go on the trampoline or being pulled through the water by a Newfoundland Dogs.

"Whatever your interest, even those you didn’t know you had, you can be one of our many guests each year who say, I’d never get to do this if I didn’t come to Mersea Island Festival.”

Each year the festival is attended by families with disabled young people, friends and members of inclusive clubs.

Besides having lots of fun, attendees get a chance to try new activities, build self-confidence and make new friends.

Mersea Island Festival is from Sunday, August 19 to Monday, August 27 with places available for the day (£30 per person), the weekend (£158 per adult, £141 per under-18) or the entire week (£262 per adult, £235 per under-18).
