MUMS across Colchester can expect to be treated this Mother's Day as new research suggests people will splash out millions of pounds on gifts.

Research carried out by British Land, owner of Tollgate, found that people across Colchester will spend £3.9 million on gifts, family meals and days out.

A survey of more than 2,000 people showed they will spend a huge £358,100 on greetings cards and £340,600 on pamper products in total.

A third of mums polled across the borough admitted to having less than an hour's "me time" each day, so clearly deserve a treat.

Traditional gifts such as greetings cards, flowers and chocolates top the list of this year's most popular Mother's Day presents.

Giancarlo Ussi, centre manager at Tollgate, said: “Mother’s Day is one of the busiest times of year for us, with shoppers keen to show their mums some much-deserved appreciation.

"Our research shows just how important this is as lots of mums admit to having less than an hour for themselves each day.

“Traditional Mother’s Day gifts will always be popular, but this year we’ve also seen more people choosing ‘me time’ treats such as pamper products from Boots.”

Mother's Day is Sunday, March 11.
