A FUNDRAISER for an inspirational youngster who is fighting a rare type of bone cancer is being organised by family friends.

Mykie Perkins was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma in October last year after initially being told he had a broken leg.

Since then, the 12-year-old and his family have spent much of their time travelling back and forth to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridgeshire for treatment.

But it is hoped money from a fundraising event will allow the Colchester youngster to spend more time at home.

Mykie's mother, Tammie Woodcock, said the youngster was hoping to be able to go to the event.

She said: "He ended up spending Christmas in hospital so we kind of wrote it off and said we'll have a proper family Christmas this year.

"When we first had the diagnosed the specialist sat us down and told us this was going to change our lives.

"It's been an incredibly intense time but we were expecting it to be.

"But Mykie said himself he wants to go to the fundraiser and see everyone even if it's just for an hour."

Mykie’s dad, Dean, has given up work to take care of his son along with partner Tammie.

Family friend Amanda Ellen and her partner Ray McGivern are behind the organisation of the event which will take place at Greenstead Social Club on February 10.

Amanda said: "I just thought it would be a lovely thing to do for Mykie and his parents while they can't work.

"He loves his football and he's a big Liverpool fan so we've been in touch with them to see if we can organise a message from some of the players.

"But Colchester United have agreed to give him a some tickets for a few home matches.

"I haven't done anything like this before and there's a lot of organisation going into it and I'm feeling quite anxious about it.

"But then I remind myself it's just for one day and the difference it might make to Mykie and his family could be huge."
