Tributes have flooded in from around the world for a famous Halstead horse.

Traditional cart horse Flynn died on Monday after a short battle with illness.

Flynn was well known for taking people on trips around Greenstead Green and despite being retired for four years, was a regular figure grazing in Bluebridge Meadows.

After Flynn died, owner Ian Groves posted the news on Facebook and has since been inundated with warm comments.

Mr Groves said: “The response I have had has been amazing. So many people knew Flynn and are just as sad to see him go.

“I have even had people from Australia and LA commenting about him on Facebook.

“I have had horses my whole life but never come across one like Flynn.

“He was always so happy and friendly to everyone.

“He was such a character and I really am so sad to lose him.”

Such was Flynn’s popularity, he was often part of weddings, funerals and school proms.

His ashes will be scattered around Bluebridge Meadows, where he lived with another of Mr Groves’ horses, Gus, for several years.

Mr Groves added: “I need to find Gus a new friend. It’s like he’s been looking for his friend the last few days. He’s quite a bit older than Flynn so I never thought it would be him on his own.

“We need to find the right horse for Gus. He probably couldn’t deal with a younger one but he can’t be on his own.”

Ian’s partner Rachel Lowry added: “The loss of our lovely mate Flynn has devastated us, he has been a huge part of our life since we got him 13 years ago. We shall miss him dreadfully. He has left a big hole in our hearts.”
