AN ESSEX Police special constable has been praised for his commitment and dedication to the role.
Del Garroway sacrifices his time on a voluntary basis and regularly makes the 66 mile round trip from his home in North Essex to Boreham where he volunteers in a specialist role.
At around 6am in the morning, Del was getting ready to set off for an early shift when his car failed to start.
Determined to get into work come what may, the volunteer officer refused to let his car problems stop him from carrying out his duties.
Del telephoned his Sergeant to explain what had happened and, rather than disturbing friends or family at an early hour, booked a taxi to ensure he could get into Boreham on time.
Sarah Wright from the Specials Command Team said: “Under the circumstances, a lot of people in Del’s position would have thought twice about making the trip, but Del refused to let his colleagues down.
“What’s more, he arrived on time and carried out his duties with a really positive attitude.
“This is another example of the amazing commitment shown by our Special Constables to support their regular colleagues and help keep the people of Essex safe.”
