A lorry driver has swapped his truck for some blue suede shoes after being offered the chance to perform an Elvis tribute show.

Billy Purcell was on holiday in the Dominican Republic when he was invited to perform his act on stage.

Bosses at the hotel were so impressed with his performance, that they offered him a job on the spot.

Mr Purcell has already left his employer Systematic Logistics of Colchester, and jetted off to the island paradise.

Andrew Triolo, Systematic's managing director, said: "We were sad to see Billy go, he is quite a character and well liked within the company.

"He presented us all with his CD just before he left, which is actually very good!

"We will definitely stay in touch with him over the internet and will keep an eye on his progress as the rising star of the Caribbean."
