Four dilapidated houses in Brooklands, Jaywick, will be demolished by August next year.
Tendring Council's environmental services has pledged to clear the area of vacant properties in an attempt to improve its appearance.
Acting head Chris Kitcher told a meeting of the interaction neighbourhood management partnership board that action is currently being taken to identify owners, and that it is a lengthy process.
"There are legal practices that we have to go through," he said. "It will take us until next August to do everything we need to."
The £21,000 project will also see fly-tipped material removed from the sites if it is considered to be unsightly or prejudicial to health.
