Seafaring fun will be in the air this weekend when an annual festival takes the coast by storm.

The Harwich Sea Festival begins on Sunday at 11am on Harwich Quay.

The traditional festival is set to boast more than 30 stalls and side-stalls.

There will also be theatres and performances from sea-shanty singers. An African drum and dance band will be filling the air with music.

Children will be kept on the go with rides and taste-buds will be tickled with home-made sweets and ice creams.

Old Gaffer racing - the use of old sailing vessels - will also be setting off from the quay.

And the new Trinity House vessel, Galatea will be in dock. A sailing barge, the Centaur, will be included in the line-up and at 4pm a special demonstration will be taking place.

Gazette reporter Andrea Collitt will be taking to the seas as part of the Harwich branch of RNLI's rescue demonstration.

The Atlantic 75 class inshore lifeboat, as well as two Severn lifeboats, will be part of the seafront spectacular.

Rounding off the day's events will be a rescue helicopter. The festival is organised by the Harwich and District Rotary Club, who have been running the event since 2000.
