Today it's an empty field - in a year's time Colchester United fans hope it will be their new Field of Dreams.
Work has finally kicked off on the U's new 10,000-seater stadium at Cuckoo Farm.
The first turf was cut yesterday after bulldozers moved on to the site.
Six-year-old fan Scott Mason and U's legend Peter Wright carried out the ceremony, with Colchester deputy mayor Peter Crowe.
Pint-sized Scott bravely spoke in front of a crunch council meeting last year, when funding for the £14 million project got the go-ahead. The U's-mad youngster was thrilled to get it under way.
"It's really exciting - no-one at school believes I'm doing it!" he said.
The new ground will also boast conference facilities for 400 people and be home to Colchester United Community Sports Trust, which works with 7,500 youngsters a week.
