VIDEOS of Colchester in years gone by have begun to receive worldwide recognition from viewers.

Colchester History Channel, which airs on Facebook and YouTube, has been contacted by people who have moved away from the town.

Maureen McLynn, who lived in Montgomery Close but has moved to California, said: “The films bring back so many childhood memories.”

Others, who now live in South Africa and on the Mediterranean, have also been in touch to say how fantastic the videos are.

Paul Diggens from the channel said: “We are so delighted to be bringing happy memories to our viewers now worldwide.

“From 21 years of fronting Colchester Hospital Television Service we produced over 640 locally made programmes.

“We aim to upload as many as possible on a monthly basis for everyone to reflect on and enjoy.”

CHTV closed at the end of 2014 when it became difficult to find funding but Mr Diggens said the films are important to the town’s history.

The latest video, showing a journey to the former Queen Street bus station, was uploaded on Monday. Other footage includes Jacklins Restaurant.
