A life of "specs, rugs and rock and roll" looks set to continue for an aged rocker looking to hit the road again.

Just a week after the Gazette published the 74-year-old's plan to start up a band, the response has been overwhelming.

Roy Speed, from St John's Road, Clacton, said many musicians, plus television companies asking for interviews had already contacted him.

He said: "I've had singers call, sax players, bass and keyboard players and then just yesterday a TV company got in touch.

"The hardest thing will be turning people down."

Despite a hip replacement operation in February, Mr Speed said he was not prepared to leave behind his lifetime in music just yet.

The great grandfather, who ran the Little Big Horn music club in Chingford until a few years ago, said he wants to play at local clubs, pubs and charity events.
