A plucky pensioner is planning a daredevil abseil from a 280ft water tower - despite being told she's bonkers.
Supergran Pearl Oxford, 81, will take the plunge from Colchester's Jumbo landmark to raise cash for a cancer charity.
"I always wanted to do something mad in my life but I never had the opportunity before," said Pearl, of St John's.
"I climbed trees when I was younger, but nothing like this.
"I'm a bit nervous - but I'm going to do it.
"My doctor says I'm mad and said he'd never give anyone my age permission to do this.
"But I've just finished laying a patio, so I think I'm strong enough!"
The eye-popping stunt will raise cash for Marie Curie Cancer Care. Pearl's daughter, Trisha Winney, has already walked part of the Great Wall of China for the charity after suffering from the disease.
