Another push is being made to make a "dangerous" junction safe after a crash left a woman seriously injured.

Tiptree councillor Margaret Fairley-Crowe will write to highways officials in a further attempt to get a mini-roundabout on a crossroads in the village.

It comes after a 52-year-old woman was left with serious rib injuries after two cars collided - causing one to lose control and knock a pensioner off his bike before ploughing into a parked car which then hit the woman.

The cars collided at the crossroads interlinking Church Road and Station Road, at about 9am on Tuesday.

The woman was airlifted to hospital and the driver of one car, along with the 82-year-old cyclist, were treated for injuries.

Mrs Fairley-Crowe, who has been campaigning for the roundabout for nearly two years, said the crash proves something needs to be done.

She said: "I have been campaigning about it for a long time and now we have had a serious accident.

"Now this has happened I will be restarting my campaign because something needs to be done."

County Council highways officials refused to put a mini-roundabout in the road last year stating there was no need because not enough traffic used the roads.

Mrs Fairley-Crowe plans to send letters to highways chiefs next week asking them to review their decision.
