An elderly man has been left bruised and shaken after being attacked in his home by a violent robber.

The 93-year-old victim, who was pushed and shoved around his Dovercourt home by the thug, is recovering with his family.

A police spokesman said: "Any robbery is nasty but when a 93-year-old is involved it is despicable."

The incident in Balton Way happened at about 10am on Friday.

After the victim opened the door, a man appeared and he was pushed and fell backwards.

The attacker then pushed and shoved him around the house indicating that he wanted money.

After being given some money, the man left and the victim was able to go out into his garden and raise the alarm with neighbours.

The raider was described as fair skinned, about 5ft 10in to 5ft 11in tall. He wore a dark, possibly black beanie hat, a long-length, long-sleeved fawn jacket and a scarf, which covered his mouth and nose.

Police have appealed for witnesses to contact Det Con John Shipley on 01255 254044 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
