A TEENAGE driver has been banned from the roads after clocking 110mph on the A120 in a race with another motorist.

Joshua Broadhurst was caught by police officers on the dual carriageway near Braintree in his BMW 118.

The legal limit is 70 miles per hour on the stretch in question.

Once he was pulled over, Broadhurst admitted to police he was racing with another driver.

The 18-year-old was found guilty of speeding in his absence at a previous hearing, and was banned from driving for 56 days at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

Richard Wood, mitigating, said Broadhurst’s father was fully supportive of a driving ban to teach him a lesson.

He said: “He said to police he had been competing with another vehicle for a short period.

“He admitted he had been showing off and regrets his conduct.

“He had a black box in his car which had been removed the day before and it may have been a boy with new toy syndrome.

“His father was very concerned about the way his son was driving.”

Broadhurst, of Brickbarns, Great Leighs, must also pay a £115 fine, costs of £90 and a victim surcharge of £30 for the offence in May.
