A vision for Tendring in 2016 has been revealed.

Clacton could have a new town centre shopping complex, hotels and a promenade development.

Dovercourt is in line for a new street market and extra seafront leisure facilities, while Walton and Brightlingsea might get new marinas.

They are part of a plan devised by Local Strategic Partnership, which includes the district council, North East Essex Primary Care Trust and Essex County Council.

Residents have been asked to comment before the draft stategy gets the go-ahead.

The ideas are a combination of residents' views, the partnership's input and of Government guidelines.

Tendring Council leader David Lines, chairman of the partnership, said the strategy hopes to capture the public's imagination by a painting a vision of what the district could be like in ten years.

"The partners have also identified the actions we need to take to realise our aspirations," he said.

"We know that change will continue to accelerate over the next decade and some of the issues and problems we will need to confront are already becoming apparent.

"It is all about working on a shared understanding of what we can achieve."

The other organisations involved in the partnership are Essex Police, Tendring Community Voluntary Service, Tendring District Association of Local Councils, Learning Skills Council, Colchester Institute and a business representative.

The strategy is out for public consultation and the closing date for responses is September 21.
