COUNCIL bosses have been urged to crackdown on people flouting regulations by staying in temporary caravans throughout the year.
Speaking at a meeting of Colchester Council’s cabinet, John Akker who heads up the STOP350 campaign group aimed at reducing housing allocation for Mersea, called for leader Paul Smith and chief executive Adrian Pritchard to look at the issue.
He said: “There is a sense this issue is not being seriously pursued. The borough regulations are being ignored and I regret to inform you they are even being laughed at. It is putting a great strain on the island’s resources.”
Mr Smith (Lib Dem) said if Mr Akker could produce evidence of the issue it could be investigated.
