A battle group has been formed by parents determined to keep open a school threatened with closure.

Alderman Blaxill School, in Shrub End, Colchester, is fighting for survival after it was put in special measures.

Parents who met last night have started a forum to support the school in Walnut Tree Way.

Mum Clare Dillon told the Gazette: "We would like to work with Essex County Council to find a way that's positive and that doesn't include closing down a vital community resource.

"The school caters for so many different people.

"It's not just about league tables, the children are nurtured here."

Dad and former pupil Kevin Starling said: "The ethos here is still pupil-based, a lot of schools are money orientated or results orientated."

The forum has had posters printed with the words "Alderman Blaxill School needs YOU" and has sent letters home to parents to raise awareness of the campaign.

A meeting for parents and anyone with links to the school is being held next Tuesday at the school at 7pm.
