Police were called out after six youths were seen throwing stones while a bus driver was at the wheel.
The incident at a bus depot in Hawthorn Avenue, Colchester, ended with a teenager being arrested on suspicion of holding an offensive weapon - a baseball bat.
Bus windows were smashed after the vehicle was left parked in Butt Road, Colchester.
Police are looking for a short black youth who was seen running nearby at the time it happened, at 9pm on Monday night.
