Scores of criminals are on the run after committing crimes in north Essex, the Gazette can reveal.
Some of those wanted are rape and drugs suspects, being hunted after being allowed out on bail before facing their charge at crown court.
Others have vanished after being given community punishments for lesser crimes like criminal damage and assault.
The figures, obtained exclusively by the Gazette, come months after Essex Police was forced to admit Category A suspects on the loose had risen in the last six months.
Dave Bennett, 53, Eastern Division warrants officer covering Colchester and Tendring, said outstanding warrants in the area were on the decline.
He said: "I think it is important to point out that even though it seems a lot, not all these people live in Essex.
"They have often committed the offence in area but do not live here."
