A CELEBRATION of care homes kicks off this Saturday in Colchester.

Silversprings residential care home at Tenpenny Hill is maximising the sunshine with a summer garden party for Care Home Open Day.

The national initiative is in its fifth year and sees thousands of homes across the UK arrange events to bridge the gap between residents and their communities.

Thorrington residents can drop into Silversprings on Saturday from 2pm until 5pm for a free family-friendly event.

Guests will be able to enjoy high tea on the lawn and live entertainment.

Visitors will also be invited to try their luck on the raffle and take part in reminiscence activities with elderly residents.

Home manager Donna Cousins said: “Care Home Open Day is about connecting people and enriching the lives of residents through lasting relationships with the community across the generations.

“We cannot wait to open our doors to the community to showcase everything Silversprings has to offer and the difference care homes make to residents’ lives and their wellbeing.”

Nearby Haven Lodge in Clacton is also welcoming people inside on June 16.
